I. Textile Picture and Batik Competition

The Textile Picture and Batik Competition features artworks created using textile fibres and dyes. A textile picture is painting with fabric, where fragments of material, threads, and textures are assembled into a unified image. Batik is the technique of hand-painting on fabric using resist compositions. What is valued here is authorial concept, harmony of colour and composition, virtuoso command of the material, and the ability of fabric to "speak" the language of art.

Nominations:

  1. Textile Picture — works created using textile fibres, patches, threads, and other materials combined into a unified composition on a plane.
  2. Cold Batik — painting on fabric using a resist composition applied by a cold method.
  3. Hot Batik — painting on fabric using melted wax or paraffin as a resist.
  4. Knot Batik (Tie-Dye/Plangi) — the technique of dyeing fabric by tying, folding, or clamping sections followed by immersion in dye.
  5. Free Painting on Fabric — painting on fabric without the use of resist compositions, using acrylic, oil, or aniline dyes.
  6. Mixed Techniques in Textile — works combining various techniques of textile painting, painting, printing, appliqué, or embroidery.

II. Quilting Competition

The Quilting Competition is the art of creating multi-layered quilted canvases. Quilting combines patchwork, appliqué, and stitching, which binds all layers together and becomes an independent expressive element. The competition evaluates originality of composition, mastery of execution, complexity and rhythm of stitching, as well as the author's ability to create a holistic artistic statement through patchwork technique.

Nominations:

  1. Authorial Quilt — an artistic quilted canvas created according to an individual sketch, using various techniques of patchwork, appliqué, and stitching, united by a single authorial concept.
  2. Patchwork (Quilt Sewing) — a product assembled from pieces of fabric sewn together in a certain order, forming a geometric or free pattern.
  3. Appliqué in Quilting — the technique of creating an image by sewing fragments of fabric onto a base, complemented by stitching.
  4. Stitching as the Basis of Composition — works in which stitching becomes the main artistic element, forming the texture, rhythm, and visual image of the product.
  5. Mixed Techniques in Quilting — works combining various techniques of patchwork, appliqué, embroidery, textile painting, and stitching in a single product.

III. Non-Woven Materials Competition (Embroidery, Lace, Knitting and Weaving)

The Non-Woven Materials Competition features works created without the use of a woven base. Embroidery is a pattern created with threads on a material. Lace is an openwork weaving of threads. Knitting is the formation of fabric from a continuous thread using needles or a hook. Weaving is the interlacing of fibres into decorative forms. This nomination welcomes virtuoso command of technique, complexity of pattern, originality of design, and emotional expressiveness of the work.

Nominations:

  1. Embroidery (Classical) — traditional embroidery performed using classical stitches and techniques: cross-stitch, satin stitch, Richelieu, hemstitch, chain stitch, and others. Evaluated for accuracy of execution, complexity of pattern, and preservation of traditional canons.
  2. Embroidery (Authorial) — contemporary embroidery performed according to an individual sketch using original compositional and colour solutions. Non-traditional materials, bold combinations of techniques, and emotional expressiveness of the work are welcomed.
  3. Lace (Bobbin) — lace woven using bobbins — wooden sticks onto which threads are wound. Evaluated for complexity and purity of design, fineness of interlacing, density, and evenness of weaving.
  4. Lace (Needle) — lace created with a needle in the needle lace technique. Evaluated for virtuosity of execution, complexity of openwork patterns, and variety of decorative elements (picots, bridges, scallops).
  5. Knitting (Needles) — products made on knitting needles: clothing, accessories, interior items, art objects. Evaluated for complexity of pattern, technique of execution, quality of fabric, originality of form, and colour solution.
  6. Knitting (Crochet) — products made with a crochet hook: clothing, accessories, interior items, art objects. Evaluated for mastery of execution, complexity of openwork patterns, density and texture of the knitted fabric, and authorial approach to form and design.
  7. Weaving — products created by weaving techniques from fibres, threads, vines, straw, beads, or other flexible materials. Evaluated for complexity of interlacing, rhythm of pattern, quality of execution, and expressiveness of form.
  8. Mixed Techniques in Embroidery and Lace — works combining various techniques of embroidery, lace-making, knitting, weaving, and other hand techniques in a single work. Original artistic solutions, the creation of complex texture, and a holistic authorial image through a combination of materials and technologies are welcomed.

It is important to participate, interesting to watch, and useful to listen. That is how one can describe the atmosphere of the "Russian Art Week" — a place where creativity, education, and communication merge into a single stream of inspiration.

The "Russian Art Week" is not just a competition. It is a map of the contemporary Russian art world, marking all the main directions: from the familiar painting and graphics to bold digital experiments and monumental forms. In addition to the exhibition and competition programs, the "Russian Art Week" offers participants and guests an extensive educational and business program: master classes and lectures, conferences, business meetings, presentation sessions for authors, and a unique format — the "Art Ring", where leading experts engage in live dialogue about trends and the future of art.
